FAQs - Case Examination Prep
Our preparation session is a rigorous professional examination preparation course that commences with a period of "at distance study" that culminates with a residential program that is held in Edmonton, Alberta.
The at
distance delivery part of the program consists of reviewing technical
material necessary in completing the quantitative analysis of a case. Support
material for the "at distance" component of the program consists of a set of
computer discs that contain reference material, instruction on case writing and
two practice cases that are to be submitted for feedback. These
assignments should be done either (1) by hand and scanned in and emailed to us
or (2) in Word and Excel, ideally using the same software as on exam day
(if this is not possible, restrict your use of Word and Excel to only the most
basic of commands).
Alternatively they can be faxed or mailed to us. Much of the review
material is in the form of "internet
movies" in wmv format
(windows media video
files that cover some of the more challenging technical material). In order to
make full use of the program you will require to have access to a computer with
an internet browser, an up to date Windows Media Player (Version 9 or higher), cd/dvd
drive, e-mail, and Office 97, 2000, XP or Office 2007.
No. The DVDs are in wmv format and require Windows media player in order to play them. Therefore, a DVD drive installed on a computer with the necessary software is required to play them back.
Likely none. You may wish to bring reference material that covers cost volume profit, capital budgeting, capacity utilization, financial statement analysis (ratio analysis) etc. but other than that you should not need any texts. You may wish to bring pertinent reference material from the SLP to the session.
At the residential session we will
· Review some of the finer points of case writing.
· Develop some strategies for exam day.
· Review the information provided in the Backgrounder.
Our program is an intense one-of-a-kind program that prepares you for
the CMA entrance exam. The focus goes beyond technical, there is exam writing
technique, stress management and energy management. You will encounter a group
of individuals all striving towards a common goal: SUCCESS!!!

It depends on the provincial Society. Those that allow it, require the student to supply their own PC running Windows. The students will be required to install lock down software that will allow access only to a basic word processor and spreadsheet program (and I do mean basic). This alternative is a mixed blessing. The word processor feature will allow more flexibility and perhaps greater speed in the qualitative discussion but the spreadsheet function will be a detriment if you don't show your work. The electronic portion of the case write up will be printed out at the exam centre and the markers will assess a hard copy. They will not be able to review the formulas and calculations that you use unless you leave them with an audit trail that will be visible on a hardcopy.
